SHARP VISION WITHOUT GLASSES

The most often encountered ophthalmological disease is blurred vision caused by incorrect function of the eyes optical system (eye defects).
Depending on their type, vision defects can make learning, work, sport or driving difficult or even impossible. Considerable impairment of vision limits our professional and social activity.

Visual disorder

A human eye contains two complex systems: the optical system and the reception system (retina). The correct co-operation of those two systems is a condition of good eyesight.

The optical part of a human eye is composed of the cornea and the lens. If the focusing power of those elements is too great in relation to the length of the eyeball, the focusingl point is situated in front of the retina rather than on the retina. The image of distant objects is blurred. This defect of vision is known as short-sightedness (myopia). The optical system of the eye is too strong. The laser correction will weaken it by flattening the cornea.

The contrary also happens: when the focusing point is located behind the retina, we have trouble seeing close objects. This defect is called far-sightedness (hyperopia). The optical system of the eye is too weak. The laser correction will strengthen it by bending the cornea.

Vision impairment may also be brought about by a defect known as astigmatism, when the shape of the cornea (normally close to spherical) is so irregular that it prevents the light rays from focusing correctly, i.e. when rays focus in various points and produce a blurred image. Astigmatism usually occurs together with far-sightedness or short-sightedness.

Laser correction makes the corneal curvature more uniform and enables focusing of light rays in one point - on the retina. People above 40 years of age experience yet another type of vision defect. As a result of reduced elasticity of the lens, the accommodation ability of their eyes deteriorates. They suffer from presbyopia, which manifests itself in the necessity to wear glasses for reading.

The laser correction of vision defects does not liquidate presbyopia.
