We may use LASIK to correct more serious eye defects:
- Myopia to -10 D - Hyperopia to 5 D - Astigmatism to 5 D
The procedure in the LASIK method is performed in two stages. After applying local anaesthesia, your doctor will use the blade of the microkeratome to make a precise, horizontal incision in your cornea to produce a pedunculated flap. That flap is lifted and the laser beam controlled by the computer acts on the revealed deeper layers of the corneal tissue. Within a couple of seconds, the laser models the shape of the cornea and changes its optical strength. For each type and degree of eye defect we remove a specific amount of corneal tissue calculated by the computer. After the laser action is finished, the flap is put back into position. There is no need to put on any dressing after that type of surgery, and the actual place of the surgery is completely invisible. The entire LASIK procedure lasts less than 20 minutes and is pain-free.
